It’s here once again, the Monday-iest Monday of all the Monday’s. That’s right, its Monday January 16th, this year’s “Blue Monday”.

Cloaked in icy blue hues, January 16th 2023, has been awarded this gloomy title, signifying what is said to be the most depressing day of the year. As the tinkle of jingle bells is replaced with the tapping of keyboards, the cold dark nights continue to hastily draw in and the joyful festive aura exits the scene for another year, Blue Monday is upon us.

However, here at D2, we’re not wallowing with the blues nor are we painting the town red or acquiring green fingers. No, this year we are celebrating in tones of red and pink, embracing Viva Magenta 18-1750, the 2023 pantone colour of the year

Drawing influence from music, film and entertainment, as well as travel, technology and sport, Pantone’s colour experts select a colour that is both reflective of, and inspiring for, the year ahead. As 2023’s Pantone colour of the year, Viva Magenta is the 23rd colour since pantone introduced the per annum concept at the turn of the millennium.

In fact, it is the rhyme and reason behind the purple shade which adorns the D2 brand today. Established in 2018, the D2 Collective brand was informed by the 2018 Pantone colour of the year, Pantone 18-3838 Ultra-Violet.

What is Viva Magenta?

Described by Pantone’s executive director to “vibrate with vim and vigor”, Viva Magenta is a strong, expressive hybrid of red and pink. Said to be a new signal of strength, it is a colour which is brave and fearless.

Viva Magenta is inspired by one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family. This association to original matter reemphasises the connection to nature and raw materials in an increasingly digital world.Invoking the forces of nature, Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.

In 2023, D2 will most certainly be using Viva Magenta, not least because it is already one of our secondary brand colours, pairing seamlessly with Ultra-Violet.

Viva Magenta is a bold, spirited colour. When overlayed by white text this colour works effectively to illicit bold and strong statements in graphics. The hints of red make it a less conservative colour with the potential in some instances, to be used as a disruptive colour choice.

One of the core reasons why we are loving Viva Magenta at D2 is its ability to cross boundaries and transcend divisions. The 2023 pantone colour of the year is a colour which harbours few uncomplimentary colour combinations making it an extremely versatile colour choice. This versatility also extends to its seasonality, with Viva Magenta being suitable across all seasons with particular synergy with autumnal colours. Its absence of gender connotations further emphasises the inclusivity and multi-faceted potential.

So, erase the blue this Monday and look instead for Viva Magenta in 2023.
